The Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS) is located on the campus of the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM), at the address: Rua Giuseppe Maximum Scolfaro 10,000 – Polo II de Alta Tecnologia de Campinas, Campinas, SP, Brasil. ARRIVING AT GRU AIRPORT

Sao Paulo International Airport (GRU, Governador André Franco Montoro Airport, also known as “Cumbica Airport” or “Guarulhos Airport”) is the airport through which most foreign visitors arrive.

How to get to Campinas from GRU Airport:

Shuttle Buses run between GRU Airport and Campinas Bus Terminal (called “Terminal Multimodal Ramos de Azevedo”).  Tickets are available from the “Lirabus” company booth located on Terminal 2, next to the main parking lot. Tickets to Campinas cost around BRL 35 each. The bus timetable is available at the company website (select “Cumbica (Guarulhos)”). The bus trip from GRU Airport to Campinas Bus Terminal (120 km) takes around 2 hours and thirty minutes.

ARRIVING AT CGH AIRPORT

Sao Paulo/Congonhas Airport (CGH, Aeroporto de São Paulo/Congonhas – Deputado Freitas Nobre, also known as “Congonhas Airport”) is located in the city of Sao Paulo.

How to get to Campinas from CGH Airport:

Shuttle Buses run between CGH Airport and Campinas Bus Terminal (called “Terminal Multimodal Ramos de Azevedo”).  Tickets are available from the “Lirabus” company booth located on the south wing, underground level. Tickets to Campinas cost around BRL 31 each. The bus timetable is available at the company website (select “Congonhas”). The bus trip from CGH Airport to Campinas Bus Terminal (110 km) takes around 2 hours and fifteen minutes.

ARRIVING AT VCP AIRPORT

Viracopos International Airport (VCP, also known as “Campinas Airport”) is located near the city of Campinas. Some international flights are available to/from this airport, most of them with connections in Orlando, Lisbon and Buenos Aires.

How to get to Campinas from VCP Airport:

Shuttle Buses run between VCP Airport and Campinas Bus Terminal (called “Terminal Multimodal Ramos de Azevedo”).  Tickets are available from the “Lirabus” company booth located in front of the Domestic Arrivals. Tickets to Campinas cost around BRL 14 each. The bus timetable is available at the company website (select “Viracopos”). The bus trip from VCP Airport to Campinas Bus Terminal (20 km) takes around 40 minutes.

ARRIVING IN CAMPINAS

Shuttle busses from the Airports and busses from other cities in Brazil arrive at the Campinas Bus Terminal (called “Terminal Multimodal Ramos de Azevedo”). Bus tickets to and from this bus terminal can purchased online for the major bus companies.

Visitors are strongly encouraged to take taxis and ride-booking apps available at Campinas to arrive at CNPEM campus.

ACCESS CNPEM BY CAR

For visitors coming from São Paulo, Campinas, or the “Dom Pedro I” Highway

Leave the “Dom Pedro I” highway at EXIT 133. Stay on the Access Road and then follow the sign “SAÍDA134-B HOLAMBRA”, which gives access to the highway “SP-340 – Rodovia Adhemar Pereira de Barros”.

Take the Turnaround under the highway after the sign “Pólo II de Alta Tecnologia de Campinas”, after the Gas Station. Now, in the opposite direction, follow the signs “Pólo II de Alta Tecnologia de Campinas”, taking the exit to the right. Then, follow the signs “CNPEM/Laboratórios Nacionais”.

For visitors coming from Campinas

For those who are in Campinas and exit the city by “Avenida Miguel N. Burnier” Avenue, take the highway “SP-340 – Rodovia Adhemar Pereira de Barros” and follow the instructions above.

For visitors coming from Barão Geraldo

For those coming from “Barão Geraldo”, take the “Estrada da Rhodia” road. Turn right at the sign indicating “Santa Eudoxia/Guará/CNPEM – Laboratórios Nacionais”. Follow the signs “CNPEM/Laboratórios Nacionais”.

OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION

Visa

Passports must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned date of departure from Brazil.

In Brazil, the voltage is 110 or 220 V, depending on the city. In Campinas, the voltage is 110 V and 60HZ. Electrical outlet plugs and sockets in Brazil follow type N. Visitors should bring plug adapters and voltage transformers to their electric/electronic devices if necessary.

Climate

The climate is tropical but mitigated by elevation. Winters are generally dry and mild, while summers are rainy with warm temperatures.

Vaccination

Visitors are advised to get informed about vaccines recommended by their healthcare provider for entry in Brazil.
