The Biological Samples Laboratory (LAB) is part of the Biological Sample Preparation Village* and aims to support the preparation of a variety of biological samples, since simple biological materials, even cell culture and human fluid manipulation. LAB is located on axis 39-40, next to Cateretê beamline.
*The Biological Sample Preparation Village aims to support internal and external users in the preparation of biological samples, as well as in conducting sectioning, syntheses, and characterizations for biological studies.

The Biological Sample Laboratory level 1 (NB1) is dedicated to biological samples preparation without risk for users and environment.
NB1 Laboratory
LAB-NB1 has basic consumables of a biological laboratory, besides an infrastructure with equipments as centrifuge, drying oven for materials, water purifier, analytical balance, pHmeter, ultrasonic bathing, Varioskan plate reader for absorbance and fluorescence, as well as a biofreezer or temporary storage of samples at –80°C.
To access this laboratory, it is mandatory to use PPEs (Personal Protective Equipments), as long-sleeved apron, goggles and and gloves during experiments, besides appropriate clothing (long pants and closed-toe shoes). Training for the use of the facility is also mandatory, and it is forbidden to touch doorknobs with gloves and consume food/drinks.
The Level 2 (NB2) Biological Sample Laboratory is dedicated to the preparation of samples with moderate risk to the user.
It has an infrastructure divided into: anteroom (dressing and undressing), Room 1 (cell culture) and Room 2 (fluid handling), in addition to basic supplies for the preparation of biological samples.
To access the laboratory, prior training is mandatory, as well as the use of PPEs, such as a long-sleeved apron exclusive to NB2, gloves inside the rooms, a protective mask in Room 1 and goggles in Room 2, in addition to appropriate clothing (long pants and closed shoes).
Room 1 has adequate infrastructure for cell cultivation. The room is equipped with biological safety cabinets, CO2 incubators, a binocular microscope, a bath with thermal beads, a centrifuge and an automatic cell counter.
Room 2 has infrastructure for handling fluids, such as human biological samples (blood and plasma, for example). The room is equipped with a refrigerator and freezer for temporary storage and a refrigerated centrifuge. It also has an autoclave for sterilizing materials and waste.
