Hibisco Beamline

The Hibisco1 (High-energy Beamline for In-vivo animal COmputed tomography) beamline will be dedicated to investigating the underlying mechanisms of diseases caused by biosafety level 3 and 4 pathogens. It will enable testing the effectiveness of new therapies and conducting preclinical studies in small animals to monitor the progression of infectious diseases and responses to treatments. The beamline will also have cardiorespiratory synchronization to align image acquisition with animal physiology.

1The Hibisco beamline is part of the second phase of the Sirius project, which was included in the Growth Acceleration Program (Novo PAC) and will be funded by resources from the FNDCT/MCTI. The plan announced by the Federal Government foresees investments of R$ 800 million over the next four years for the second phase of the Sirius project. This includes the design and construction of ten new research stations, including technical and building infrastructure, in addition to the continuous optimization of electron accelerators.
