Two members of the LNLS were recently awarded at international conferences. The engineer Daniel Tavares received the first award granted to early-career professionals by the conference ICALEPCS, related to control systems for large scientific facilities. The researcher Francisco Carlos Barbosa Maia received the award for best poster during the WIRMS event, which brings together staff and users of infrared beamlines from laboratories around the world.

ICALEPCS

Daniel de Oliveira Tavares received the first award from the ICALEPCS (International Conference on Accelerator and Large Experimental Physics Control Systems) conference for early-career professionals for his work on hardware design for Beam Positioning Systems (BPM) and Orbit Feedback, as well as its involvement with the Open Hardware movement.

In an Open Hardware project, project files are not only publicly available, but can also be altered and even used as a basis for other projects. Since 2012, LNLS has actively participated in Open Hardware projects in the particle accelerator community, particularly in BPM electronics, involving companies, universities and research centers.

The ICALEPCS conference aims to promote collaboration among experts from around the world in control systems for large scientific facilities, such as particle accelerators and light sources.

WIRMS

The prize for best poster was given to the researcher Francisco Carlos Barbosa Maia during the event WIRMS (International Workshop on Infrared Microscopy and Spectroscopy with Accelerator Based Sources).

WIRMS is a key event for the discussion of new science and innovative technologies among staff and users of infrared and terahertz beamlines at Synchrotron (SR), Energy Recovery Linac (ERL) and Free Electron Laser (FEL) facilities around the world.
