The Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS) is responsible for operating Sirius, the largest and most complex scientific infrastructure ever built in Brazil and one of the most advanced synchrotron light sources in the world. This state-of-the-art laboratory allows the investigation of the composition and structure of matter in its most varied forms, opening new perspectives for research in areas such as materials science, nanotechnology, biotechnology, environmental sciences, and many others.
LNLS houses multi-user facilities, open to the Brazilian and international scientific community, and provides a sophisticated scientific instrument for academic and industrial research, benefiting thousands of scientists every year.

The open facilities of the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS) serves Brazilian and foreign researchers who wish to use the experimental stations of the Laboratory to carry out their investigations. Learn below how to access LNLS’ facilities.

LNLS is providing video classes for training current and future Sirius users. The courses aim to improve theoretical and practical aspects to improve the use of beamlines and the data produced. They are available free of charge on the SAU Online portal, after user registration.
Users of CNPEM facilities have access to accommodation and restaurant on campus. Users from Brazilian institutions and foreigners residing in Latin America and the Caribbean can request financial assistance for the use of the LNLS’ facilities.
The LNLS Users Group (LNLSUG) purpose is to provide a channel for the exchange of information and advice between LNLS’ users and management. Any LNLS user or potential user with an account in the LNLS proposal submission system, SAU Online, is eligible to become a member of the LNLSUG.
Following the PhD Thesis Award of 2021 and Masters Thesis Award 2022, the LNLS Users Group (LNLSUG) will organize in 2023 the LNLSUG Young Researcher Award to recognize outstanding research work using LNLS facilities.
To be eligible for the 2023 Young Researcher Award, the candidate must comply with the criteria and follow the application procedure detailed at the LNLSUG website: Awards. The pre-selected candidates shall present a short talk during the 33rd RAU/LNLS and a 40-min online talk at the LNLS Users group Seminar series.
The decision will be announced during the closing session of the 33rd RAU/LNLS, November 09th 2023 and published on the LNLSUG webpage.
LNLS organizes and promotes events such as training courses, schools, seminars, workshops and other educational activities for the training of skilled personnel.
